SIMS 7 - DfE changes to Grounds for removal
Status - Workstation Patch 2 for Autumn 2024 is work in progress as of 9/12/24 and is subject to change.
The DfE have advise that change is needed to Grounds for Removal (GfR)(England) codes which missed the Autumn 2024 SIMS release and will now be included in Workstation Patch 2 for Autumn 2024 SIMS.
In the simplest model, these amount to changes to the set of Lookups. We will be making some existing codes inactive and changing the description of some remaining codes. In theory, this is not a breaking change, but these code changes are not fully 'backwardly' compatible. The existing screen is as below.
To accommodate this we are adding some schema to record historical GfR and will display both what the code is now and what it would have been at the point of departure. The effective date is 19/08/2024 for the codes to change. The updated screen is below with a new box to the right of GfR.
Where pupils leave after the effective date, the new box is blank. (No conflict of meaning)

The school history edit has more room to show this.
We have asked that the existing fields are unchanged in the reporting engine and new fields added which will include the pre-effective date value.
The internal APIs will be modified to add the new 'field', we await detail of the calls. It is unlikely that Partner APIs will be updated to include the field unless we receive feedback which demonstrates the need. It would be for each TI to decide whether this change has an impact to their application and customers.
